It seems that this Saturday and Sunday could rain, but don’t worry, more fun! Though it rains, here you can see the latest weather prevision, the championships won’t result affected and all activities will be done normally.

At this moment the entries are closed until this week-end and there are 422 runners for Saturday and 402 inscripted for Sunday. People comes from all around the world, Israel, Russia, Bulgaria, France, Scotland, Sweden, Finland… Thank you for coming!!!

We will post the different courses’ technical specifications shortly but in the meanwhile here are notes from the course planners.

Course planner notes:

• Given the large quantity of rocky elements the cartographers have generalised these elements. Only significant or sizable elements appear on the maps.
• Symbol 209.0 “Boulder Cluster” has been used to refer to both Boulder Clusters and small Ruins.
• Stone walls are drawn both as Stone Walls or Passable Rock Face depending on the situation in order to aid map reading. The majority of these dry stone walls are only visible from one side.
• The contour lines are highly accurate.
• Vegetation is also highly accurate wherever possible. Most 60% green is easily passable boxwood, despite at a reduced velocity.
• All livestock fencing and electrified fencing is represented on the map and is quite visible. Therefore fencing will not be marked with tape, except for a small area not represented.
• Zones marked as dangerous are bee hives.
• Due to livestock movement in the map zone, there are several tracks that look like paths but however are not, thus they are not represented on the map.

A reminder that competitors have to be at the *pre-start* at their assigned start time. Bear in mind that the pre-start on Saturday is at the competition centre and the pre-start on Sunday is 20 minutes from Car Park 1 and 30 minutes from the competition centre.

Registration now open for the 2011 Catalan Orienteering Championships. In the Entries section you will find all the information regarding registration, if you have any doubts don’t hesitate to contact us via email: aligots@aligots.org

In relation to start times for the two competions, you need to bear in mind that on both days there will be a pre-start of 20 minutes, however the pre-start on Sunday is 20 30 minutes walk from the competition centre. Further information under Races Information.

Saturday afternoon activities:

• from 17h onwards: activities and games for children in the main square (la Plaça Anselm Clavé), Campdevànol.

• 19h: talk by Monica Aguilera, top Trail runner, Raider, Orienteerer, and specialist in ultra long distance.

And to finish, we remind you that in the lodgings section you will find weekend special offers – choose between campervan, hotel or camping – and to top it off there will be a bar service and a barbeque in the competition centre!!!

Information session

Aligots will hold an introductory session for newcomers to orienteering a few days before the championships. Open to all participants. More information coming soon regarding the date and location.

If you were in doubt, now you’ve no excuse, as there will be courses for ALL fitness levels. And we’ll do a brief introductory session on the race days too.

First course trials

Since the beginning of August Aligots technical team has been working hard on the course routes to ensure they’re of championship standard.

Our planning team, as well as several club members, have been testing the first courses and are weighing up the pros and cons of each. All agree that the map has some very technical zones where fine tuned orienteering will be a must. Additionally the top courses are physically demanding, which will be a deciding factor in the fight to be crowned Catalan Champion.

The continuing tests are helping to perfect the course plans so that no-one will be cheated out of this spectacular orienteering terrain at these top level Catalan Championships!

Our “outings” to the race zone have given us plenty of photo opportunities to capture the landscape and you can see the results in the Competition Zone Photos, accessible from the main menu above. You’ll find updated images that give a very good idea of the terrain.

The How To Get Here section has also been updated with the competition centre location and the car-parks.
